The XIth Annual Meeting of UP-Delhi chapter of Association of Medical
Physicists of India (AMPI) with a thematic focus on “National Seminar on
Recent Developments in Radio-nuclide Imaging & Radiation Therapy” was
organized by Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences,
Lucknow. The venue of this meeting was Auditorium, SGPGI and took place
on 29th January, 2006. This meeting was well attended by more than 100
participants working in various parts of Uttar Pradesh & Delhi and in
particular the participation from many young physicists was quite
encouraging.

During the inauguration of the meeting, Prof. A. K. Shukla welcoming the
delegates & presented an overview of the seminar. The seminar was
formally inaugurated by Prof. R. K. Sharma, Acting Director of SGPGI and
he delivered the inaugural address highlighting the importance &
contribution of medical physics in various disciplines of Medicine.
Prof. Kamal Sahani, Director General Medical Education & Training, Govt.
of Utter Pradesh also addressed the meeting and highlighted developments
in the field particularly in reference to the State of Uttar Pradesh. On
behalf of UP-Delhi chapter of AMPI, Prof G. S. Pant was honored and
felicitated for his lifetime contribution and achievements in medical
physics. The highlight of the inaugural session was the keynote address
delivered by Prof. G. S. Pant “On past, present and future of diagnostic
& therapeutic uses of radiation medicine”. Dr. K. J. Maria Das,
organising secretary proposed the vote of thanks and invited the
participants for interactive scientific sessions.
There were eight invited lectures, well attended by the participants.

There were three technical demonstrations respectively by Mr. Muthukumar
of Nucletron India Pvt. Ltd, on “The State of Art Treatment Planning”,
Mr. Animesh of Kirloskar Theratronics on “Concepts & Application of
Tomotherapy” and Mr. S. L. Kapoor on “Software for Reconstruction of CT
Images from Cone Beam Projection Radiographs for Use in IGRT” which were
not only appreciated by the audience, but also enabled technical know
how for the participants on latest developments. This was followed by a
proffered paper session on which Dr.Pratik Kumar, Dr.L.M.Agarwal and
Mr.Atul Tyagi presented papers and generated fruitful discussion.
There was a panel discussion conducted by Prof.A.K. Shukla as moderator
on the “Recent Strategies in Management of Cancer Patients”. The other
panelists who participated in the panel discussion were Ms.Juthika
Patnakar, IAS, Health Secretary, Govt. of UP., Prof. A.K.Dixit,
Dr.P.K.Pradhan and Dr.S.P.Mishra.
Subsequent to scientific sessions the chapter its general body meeting.
The general body elected the following office bearers for the year 2006
– 2007. Dr. S. P. Mishra as President, Dr. Pratik Kumar as secretary and
Prof. A. K. Shukla, Dr. K. J. Maria Das, Dr. R. K. Jauhari, Dr. L. M.
Aggarwal, Dr. A. K. Dixit as executive members of the UP-Delhi AMPI
Chapter.
There were no registration/ accommodation charges and the program was
organized with the financial assistance from SGPGI, AMPI, Rosalina
Instruments, TSG Integrations, Nucletron India Pvt. Ltd, Kirloskar
Theratronics Ltd. & M/s Siemens Ltd.
